Transmission Replacement
In motor vehicles, the transmission usually refers to the gear box, which uses gears and gear trains to transmit speed and torque from a rotating power source to another device. You can have your car's transmission replaced with a new, rebuilt, remanufactured, repaired or used transmission. For more information contact G & L Automotive II in Alsip, IL. Transmission Repair and Rebuild
When it comes to automatic transmission repair, there are several options: buying a new one, buying a remanufactured one or having yours rebuilt. Each of the above options has its own share of advantages and disadvantages. Of the three options, rebuilt transmissions are the most economical. A rebuilt transmission involves removing the transmission from the car, disassembling it, replacing worn out parts, reassembling it, and then reinstalling it. To have this done by specialists, call 708-385-3626 to talk to the mechanics of G & L Automotive II today.

Transmission Flush
Although most manufacturers recommend a transmission flush every 30,000 miles or every two years, some symptoms may indicate that you need a transmission flush sooner. Some of the symptoms that indicate that your car needs a transmission flush sooner are: transmission grinding or strange noises, problems shifting gears, slipping gears, surging of the car, and delay in vehicle movement. Flushing the used fluid from the transmission washes away tiny particles of dirt, clutch material, and metal shavings. For all your transmission flush needs, call 708-385-3626 or visit G & L Automotive II today - we are transmission experts.

Cylinder Head
A cylinder head is the closed end of a cylinder (located in a car's engine block). It sits above the cylinder block, closing the top of the cylinder and forming the combustion chamber. The cylinder head coordinates airflow in and out of the engine. Since the cylinder head's chief function is to seal the cylinders properly, insufficient compression results in the car being difficult to drive. To have your cylinder head checked and repaired, talk to G & L Automotive II's cylinder head repair and reconditioning specialists today.

Timing Belt
A timing belt is a part of your car's internal combustion engine. The belt synchronizes the camshaft and the crankshaft rotation so that the engine valves open and close at the correct timings. Also, the belt prevents the piston from striking the valves in an interference engine. A timing Belt is a rubber belt that usually features teeth on the inside service, while a timing chain is a metal roller chain. Most cars we drive now have timing belts instead of timing chains and gears. Although different manufacturers have their recommended mileage, you need to have your car's timing belt checked regularly. To have it checked by experts, contact G & L Automotive II today.

Cylinder Block
A cylinder block is the powerhouse for the motor vehicle. The solid cast car part houses the cylinders and their components (gaskets, valves, and seals) inside a lubricated and cooled crankcase. Since it is one of the most important parts of your car, the block is designed to be extremely strong and sturdy. Although strong and sturdy, the block is susceptible to failure resulting in a vehicle that won't start. Cracked blocks, porous blocks, core plug, or freeze plug failure are some of the problems facing cylinder blocks. Call 708-385-3626 to talk to the mechanics of G & L Automotive II about your cylinder block problems.

What Our Customers Are Saying

I been going to G & L Automotive since I got my first car in 2003. They been good to me ever since. They always get it done right the first time weather if its replacing the brakes, fixing a coolant leak, or doing a simple oil change. I even bought a used car off them in 2005 and still have the car today. They won a customer for life.

-Matt R.

I had a great first experience at G and L. I contacted for appointment on Saturday and was able to bring the car in on Monday. They diagnosed the problem with my exhaust system quickly and gave me a clear idea of the options. They were able to get the necessary parts from a nearby supplier and had be on my way in a little over an hour. The final price was exactly as estimated, and the personnel were a pleasure to deal with.

-Eric G.

Has worked on my entire families cars for years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Honest, reliable service. I went to one of those quick lube chain places for an oil change thinking it was too small time to bother G&L. That won't happen again. I went to 2 different quick lube places and both times ended up having to come and get it redone and the bottom of my car cleaned of all the spilled oil. Apparently they used pliers to put the filter on and it sprayed my car . Thanks to Bud my mechanic, he explained the importance of avoiding the chains (the cheaper oil used, the rush to make numbers, etc). And G&L ends up replacing engines on one of the chains. They call him when they run into a problem. Moral of the story Isn't about oil changes. It's about honesty and consistency and you will find that here.

-Mitchell Garrett

I am an out of towner and was looking for a good shop to fix my car, I asked around at my work and it was suggested that I visit George at G&L. So I brought my car into the shop and explained to George that my steering wheel was shaking when I hit the brakes. George said he would take a look at it, before he looked at it he thought it might be the rotors causing the problem. So I gave him my keys and went to lunch. About an hour later George called up told me the front brakes and rotors need to be changed. The price I ended up paying was good and a relief because I just dropped a bunch of cash on my wive's car back home. George had my car back to me by the end of the day, the shaking stopped and I noticed that my car drove a little smoother. I was really lucky to find these guys, George is very approachable and gives off a good vibe. I also feel better because I try to avoid national chains and spend locally if possible even though my shop back home is a chain.
